Be Ethically Made

Besides other benefits the time under quarantine will probably become famous for rethinking. Rethinking by the means of the good thoughts – that gave you reflection, will to change and prospect as well as the bad thoughts – that made you disappointed, sad or even angry. Yet, without any doubt – it can be called quality time, where no rush was included – no endless to-do lists, never-ending meeting or hectic deadlines were on your table. Thoughts could come in a clear manner, without any disturbances. Last week we came across a quote that caught our attention – “the most environmentally product is the one you didn’t buy”. And it made us think, when was the last time we told ourselves “Stop, you fridge is already too full, your wardrobe soon will not close and your line of beauty products could easily be showcased in a beauty shop”.  We are the choice we make – sounds like a statement that is so clear, yet how many of us actually think twice before coming back to our old habits.
This is why, this week we wanted to share with you something that could  become your friendly new habit of change that has a positive impact towards the environment we live in. And, actually, don’t we all want that grass which is greener?

We are the Weather / by  Jonathan Safran Foer

WE QUOTE:

This goes without saying – Stella McCartney is a passionate nature lover. This time she did a collaboration with her friend Safran Foer who wrote the book “We are the weather”. She put into fashion what he wrote into words and they came up with the round pattern of the sun, which became the resort’s distinctive print: “It’s the circular weather, it’s the clouds, it’s the rain; the sun is breathing, blowing wind.”

Grandma’s Garden

WE EAT:

If one has a grandmother will definitely relate to a secret cupboard which is usually opened on autumn evenings – full of fermented delights, homemade jams and all things delicious that need a little bit of preservation to make their way to that cupboard. Why not start using that technique ourselves and little by little prepare for the cold winter. How nice it would be to open your freezer and find blueberries in them next December, especially when you realize how long it takes for the blueberries to travel to your local grocery store and the carbon footprint it brings. There are lots of different methods like freezing, drying, refrigerating and fermenting your food. In fact, fermentation is so good for your health that it can become your favorite thing – probiotics produced during fermentation can help restore the balance of friendly bacteria in your gut and may alleviate some digestive problems. Do you have your favourite way of preserving food? Maybe some special technique? If yes, please share with us! @curatedbysisters

Happy Planet

WE SAVE:

Think about water as a social and environmental heritage of supreme importance that we should take care of all the time. We have few tips on what can be done at home to make it more water-efficient: take shorter showers, turn off the shower before soaping up, then turn it back on to rinse, when washing dishes by hand, do not leave the water running for rinsing – you can save up to 20 litres each time. We will never have too much water – showing respect and saving it a little more each day is essential for a happy planet.

Let’s Break It Down

WE DO:

“You just finished a banana. A food that comes in its own natural packaging – go you! You’re feeling great about your choice of sustainable snack. Now time to get rid of that banana peel. You think to yourself, “banana peels are natural, so they’ll biodegrade on their own. I’m trying to not make waste, but this will just decompose in the trash. So we’re good, right?!”
Wrong!” Getting rid of rubbish isn’t as straight forward, even if it’s organic. Take a look at this page which explains it all in detail.
